Poke on a Spoon

Prep Time: 10 minutes

This fancy looking appetizer will really impress your friends! But take a closer look: It is simply chopped ingredients with a beautiful presentation. Any dish can be cut down to size and placed on a spoon. If you have picky kids, try experimenting with different meal presentations that make eating dinner more fun... Spoons, on sticks, cut in shapes, even animals or characters.

  • 1 Pound of Fresh Tuna steak
  • 1/4 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/2 Cup finely cubed Cucumber
  • 1/4 Cup Chopped Green Onion
  • 1 Tablespoon Sesame Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Sesame Seeds

  1. Let's start with the tuna. Before I cut the tuna into cubes, I like to sear the steak on both sides. Although it is not traditional to sear the fish for the poke, I find that searing elevates the taste and texture of the dish.
  2. Cut the seared tuna into cubes about 1/4-1/2 inch. Add the rest of the ingredients, mix, and place in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, serve cold, and enjoy. Bonus Tip: Raw fish dishes such as sushi, sashimi, ceviche, poke should stay in the refrigerator right up until serving to ensure freshness.
